Flex Appeal by Rachel
Published in Paperback by Warner Books (August, 1984)
Authors: Rachel McLish and Bill Reynolds
Average review score:

If you had only one weight training book, this should be it!
Rachel's Flex Appeal is the most complete, and awesomely inspiring book on women's bodybuilding! If you want to begin a weight bearing exercise program, this is your guide. Simple, easy to understand, and covers beginning, intermediate, and advanced training techniques. Includes some myths and common questions about women's bodybuilding. The chapter dedicated to bodybuilding nutrition has been so simple and sensible. She even includes some inspirational information on bodybuilding competing. Do not be wary, this is a book for any women who wishes to weight train, regardless of to what level! A+ all the way!

Information and Inspiration
This is a wonderful book for those just getting into weight training, as well as a source of inspiration for those who have been training for years. Rachel not only explains how to train, but why it works and covers everything from exercises to routines to nutrition, as well as sharing a bit of her spiritual philosophy. You won't need a personal trainer after reading this book. An all-around GREAT book and I'm sorry to see it is out of print.

A must have book for aspiring body builders
I also bought this book many years ago and her other book, "Perfect Parts". The books cover everything from diet, training, mental attitude, as well as using great pictures for showing exercise techniques. I want to purchase another Flex Appell. ( I stupidly gave away my original one.)

Hit or Myth (Fourth Book of Myth Adventure Series / Robert Asprin)
Published in Hardcover by Walsworth Publishing (December, 1986)
Authors: Robert Asprin, Kay Reynolds, and Phil Foglio
Average review score:

Wow, wow and well you get the idea
This was the first book by Robert Asprin I ever bought, it was the first I had ever seen and most of my friends have spent the last few years being regailed with how brilliant this guy is. The pottential this book showed made me spend ever since looking for anything written by this guy in the hope that he maintained the passion of this book. For the most part I have not been dissapointed, and I am still convinced I was one of the first Brittish people to hear of this guy.. I have one important thing left to say.... BUY THIS BOOK....

Really entertaining -- don't myth this !
Hit or Myth and it's sequels are a turn from the norm when it comes to sword and sorcery.

The tales hinge on a young lad, a magician's apprentice, who is suddenly on his own when his master disappears while calling up a demon.

Humor and satire are the norm in the series. The demon turns out to be a magician in his own dimentional world from which he was summoned but now can't get back to. He takes a grudging liking to the lad and assists him as the boy continues to try to learn/develop his skill in the magic arts.

The most facinating area of the fantasy world is the dimentional bazaar -- where literally anything and everything is for sale. Our heroes get into one scrape after another, always coming out ahead by a narrow margin.

If you only like 'serious' fantasy, this is not a book for you. However, if you enjoy puns, satire and humor with a fantasy/magic setting, you'll treasure this book and its companions as long as you live -- no mythtake about it.

~P~

This is FUN!
The first five books in this series are awesome. They are fun, funny, & have great characters and stories. This is the fourth Myth Adventure. Read all 5 and have fun.

A Godsend
I told my husband the boys were all his that morning. I had to get a breath of air. Thank God He placed this book in my hands when I reached the Christian bookstoore at the mall. It was a Godsend. Someone really understood after all. I wasn't alone and I was not a bad mother. I have read this book over and over and have given copies to other moms who think no one can understand. Thank you to Maurine Adamek.

If you're a parent, you will love this book!
Have you ever had days when your kids make you crazy? And at night, when you go in and see their sleeping little innocent bodies, you feel so badly that you were not more patient with them? This book will entertain your children and make you cry (which may entertain your children even more)!

I found this darling book several years ago, and later tried to buy another. The book was out of print and unavailable. Recently, I was showing the book to a friend and she really wanted a copy. We tracked down the author who told us the book was back in print! I am thrilled and have already purchased 3 books for friends. You will not regret this purchase!

This book touches the soul of every reader; parent or child
This book served as an awesome encouragement to me and my fiancee. It got in touch with feelings that I remember from my childhood and gave me a vision of what it is going to be all about when I become a parent. I'll Do Better Tomorrow is a great reminder of what parent/child relationships are to be based upon

Logistics & Fulfillment for E-Business : A Practical Guide to Mastering Back Office Functions for Online Commerce
Published in Paperback by CMP Books (09 April, 2001)
Author: Janice Reynolds

Profitable e-commerce regardless of the product or service
Logistics And Fulfillment For e-Business: A Practical Guide To Mastering Back Office Functions For Online Commerce is a straightforward instructional manual to the basic logistics of designing, managing, and running an efficient model for profitable e-commerce regardless of the product or service being offered. From outsourcing technology; to dealing profitably with shipping costs (including the pros and cons of USPS versus other package shippers); to handling customer relations in e-Business; and much, much more, Logistics And Fulfillment For e-Business is a handy, user friendly, "how-to" reference with invaluable, practical advice for any merchant or entrepreneur setting up an e-storefront to supplement (or replace) a traditional brick-and-mortar based commercial operation.

The Author Understands the World of Multi-Channel
I bought another one of the author's book a few days ago and felt she had hit that technology right on the head so I decided to try her logistics and fulfillment book. I wasn't disappointed. I had basically given up trying to find a good book on logistics and fulfillment -- no one seemed to really understand the complexities of the multi-channel world.

This book not only deals with Internet based companies, it gives the reader the information necessary to integrate an online business with traditional channels. It provides complete knowledge of how goods flow from the initial source all the way to the customer's premise. The author explains how to reach the ultimate goal of a state-of-the-art logistics and fulfillment operation. The book details how to determine in real time the sales data, warehouse inventory, production plans, and shipment schedules as an order traverses the value chain. There is even a detailed explanation of the tools need to crunch the necessary numbers into some form of reliable forecasting.

The author really understands that the success in the world of multi-channel requires a well-defined business model and the tight integration between legacy and online applications and systems, specifically in the areas of product category, customer, order, distribution, fulfillment, data, and operational management. While the book does point out that logistics and fulfillment is no easy task, it also explains that optimal logistics and fulfillment is achievable and the end result will make all the effort and money spent worthwhile.

#1 Book on E-Commerce!
This book is the key to successfully planning (and implementing) an e-commerce strategy. While the subject can be on the boring side, Reynolds' writing style kept me interested and wanting more. Unlike most books in this space, and I have read nearly all of them, I was very taken with the expert way in which the concepts are logically presented and how the examples turned on so many lights for me. Reynolds is an obvious expert in this field and I wished she worked on some of the e-commerce start-ups I did - my portfolio would be fatter!!! Seriously, if you need to learn this material, THIS is the book. Now I wonder if she would write something on home-improvement???

Wisdom: Daily Reflections for a New Era
Published in Paperback by St Marys Pr (01 February, 2000)
Author: Reynold Feldman
Average review score:

talking with a wise friend
Reading the book _Wisdom: Daily Reflections for a New Era_ , I feel I am being treated to a daily conversation with a wise friend, someone who has read and thought deeply and broadly. Each day's reading begins with a provocative quotation--it may be from Albert Einstein, from an alchemical text, or from the Book of Common Prayer; the range of materials is truly eclectic, ecumenical. Then what follows is a well-written and thoughtful consideration of the saying, with Reynold Feldman sharing not only his own broad scholarship but also his own personal experiences. The spirit of the work is human and humble, the words are those of one who is earnestly seeking for wisdom on his life's journey, one who has encountered many traditions, many persons whom he considers wise and worth sharing with us. And in these meditations he asks good questions, shows us the many paths toward wisdom, toward healing, toward further discernment of our own way. If the reader chooses, she may follow the Wisdom Journal suggestions for writing each day. I have found that even if I do not write, I am intrigued by the assignments enough that I learn just by pondering them through the day. There are memorable stories here, challenges and comforts, ways to healing, ways to learning what it means to become wise from a multitude of perspectives. This is a companionable and intelligent work, one I whole-heartedly recommend.

Anecdotal Wisdom
This thoroughly enjoyable book, filled with anecdotal wisdom and a diversity of wise quotations, is aptly named. Each day of the year has its own distinctive subtitle/topic, a quotation to focus us on the key idea, and a witty and engaging personal story. To close each page, we are asked to draw on our own experience and wisdom to reflect on the day's topic. In a deeply spiritual sense but in a light and charming way, we are led to use our daily reflections to become wiser. Recommended dose: daily, as needed.

Superb compilation of daily reflections from diverse sources
In Wisdom: Daily Reflections For A New Era, Reynold Feldman (founder and executive director of the World Wisdom Project) offers a book of daily reflections drawn from diverse sources of wisdom ranging from the ancient to the contemporary. These "wisdoms" relate to our own ways of living and adjusting to the world, with each reflection ending in a brief exercise enabling the readers to increase their own personal wisdom and ability to cope with a rapidly changing world. Divided into one chapter for each month of the calendar year and framed for daily twenty minute readings, Wisdom is highly recommended reading for those with an interest in reaping the benefits of diverse men and women who have thought about the world with insight, passion, wit and revelation.

The Golden Letters: The Three Statements of Garab Dorje, the First Teacher of Dzogchen, Together With a Commentary
Published in Paperback by Snow Lion Pubns (February, 1997)
Authors: Garab Dorje, John Myrdhin Reynolds, Garab, and Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche
Average review score:

A lamp in the dark
The essence of the Dzogchen teaching is found in Garab Dorje's "The Three Statements That Strike the Essential Point" (Garab Dorje was the first Dzogchen master). These "Three Statements" appeared in a text known as "The Last Testament of Garab Dorje" which was part of a larger work known as the "Golden Letters".

The nineteenth century Dzogchen master Patrul Rinpoche wrote an important commentary of "The Three Statements" entitled "The Special Teaching of the Wise and Glorious King", this is the main subject matter of the present book.

Patrul Rinpoche's commentary is a joy to read, it is to the point and written in simple clear language with a minimum of technical phrases. If this wasn't enough we are then treated to further clarification with John Myrdhin Reynolds generous commentary of "The Special Teaching".

Later in the book there are more treasures in the form of a translation of the actual "Last Testament" together with Reynold's superb interlinear commentary. By the end of the book the reader is left in little doubt (as far as words can take us) as to the meaning of "The Three Statements".

It is written "to look for gold in the dark we need a lamp". "The Golden Letters" is such a lamp.

Golden Letters
This book is of great benefit because it points us directly to our true nature and it gives a very wide range of explanations for those that may need a bit more.It is a great invitation to explore within oneself. This book also helps us understand in more depth what Padmasambhava left us as great gift: Self Liberation through Seing with Nacked Awareness.

Just THIS.
If you're one of the few with the estimable karma to have truly seen through the futility of seeking as the means to 'finding,' you will only need a few lines or pages of this miraculous 'Vajra' (diamond/indestructible) teaching to 'arrive home.' If you're not, your ego's misappropriation of the stuff will probably send you on another ego trip of a few million reincarnations.

So... on one hand, this book is worth its weight in diamonds many times over; on the other, it's extremely dangerous, and useless -- it doesn't tell you anything your True Nature does not already know.

Have a deep and honest understanding of your state before you click on the order button.

Smart Jane has an A-ha experience
Review of The North Star by Peter Reynolds

A True Story

My smart friend Jane read The North Star and said: "It's a dumb book." I looked at her quizzically. I began to notice how straight she sat, how straight she dressed. She had no children. "It's about something very rare," I said. "Something wonderful but all too rare." Now Jane looked at me quizzically. "Unconventional children," I said. Her quizzicality grew. "And that's all of them," I added. Jane's eyes lit up, her jaw dropped a little. She said, "Oh." I started to explain but she is smart and didn't need me to tell -- about children who get those double-messages that appear on almost every page of The North Star, the wooden sign telling you to turn right, then below it a maddening little arrow pointing left. "Girl children get a ton of double-messages. Children in poverty get them, children in privilege. The messages about sex leave no room for homosexuality, for domestic violence, for exploitation. No wonder children grow up feeling lost. Who wouldn't love to read this book to kids everywhere?" "You're so right," said smart Jane. "Why didn't I see it?" "Maybe you've become conventional, Jane. Did you ever find your own North Star?" The quizzicality returned. "In the book the lost boy stops following the conventional signs when he discovers his North Star - surrounded by his very own constellation. That's just his true calling in life, surrounded by all his strengths and talents. It leads him back home: to himself, to an original self." "How wonderful," said smart Jane, tears standing in her eyes. #

A gift every person deserves...
I'm an "ability focused" disability awareness educator and I've adopted The North Star and its messages into my work with students for the past several years. With its messages of self-acceptance and acceptance of diversity, The North Star has been a natural companion for my own goals of helping students develop a greater appreciation of individual differences and abilities. This is a gift we all deserve, no matter what our age... no matter what obstacles we face in life.

Besides the success I've had with The North Star in the classroom, it also has great meaning to me on a personal level. As someone living with a lifelong respiratory disability, reading The North Star for the first time felt like someone was smiling at me, and nodding... confirming and celebrating the person I am and the unique life I've led, and it made me believe it is the kind of life I want to continue leading.

The North Star brings out the child in all of us....
I highly suggest firmly embracing your favorite stuffed animal as you read this book...it will be a journey you shall never forget.

Become Happy in Eight Minutes: The Search for Happiness in Eight Minutes
Published in Paperback by Plume (July, 1996)
Authors: Siimon Reynolds and Simon Reynolds
Average review score:

clear and concise
In a world full of self improvement books, it is rare to find one as short and powerful as this book.
In a little over 100 pages it says more of importance than many books 4 times the size.
Reynolds has obviously studied a lot of scientific research on happiness , then condensed the most significant findings into this sharply written guide book.
I not only found it fascinating, more importantly i found it useful .I now feel i have a number of effective tools to lift my moods whenever i feel down.An excellent buy.

Please may I have mooore?
This book was so concise and to the point! I'm a basically happy person but like to be open to improvement. Mr Reynolds makes it so easy, you have to really want DESPERATELY to stay depressed not get happy! I wanted to get copies for all my family, friends and customers. Alas, no books available. Can't understand why (unless people are buying it faster than they can print it!)

"become happy in 8 minutes"....its true... you really do!
It's virtually impossible not feel happy after reading Siimon's book. For the short time that it takes to read, the information that it gives concerning mood elevation is extremely beneficial to anyone at any level. The value that this book can bring to someone in a negative frame of mind can not be underestimated. For those people that need the formula to get themselves back on track after a little set back, honestly this book will bring a smile back to your face...which often is all that you need to get started again.

After you have read this book you will probably feel like us and want to tell Siimon,(the author) what a wonderful person he must be to have even had the interest to write such a book. As you will begin to realise Siimon has an amazing wealth of knowledge and it has been a wonderful positive experience to have met him at one of his motivational presentations in New Zealand.

We have a lot of time for Siimon's beliefs and we will happily read more of his books and take every opportunity to attend more of his seminars. It can only be a positive step.

Siimon's books "100 ways to live to 100" and "When they Zig you zag" are also great books! Howver "become happy in 8 minutes" is a great introduction to Siimon's natural but impacting writing style

The New Girl
Published in Paperback by PublishAmerica (May, 2003)
Author: Mike Reynolds
Average review score:

An interesting experiment
When I heard about this book, I knew I had to read it. I wanted to compare notes with my own journey, and I wanted to be sure that it was not going to create new stereotypes. This was an incredibly ambitious venture, not something that just any man would want to attempt, considering all the psychological conditioning required, especially when he is not significantly transgendered. I am sure the author fully expected to experience six weeks of a woman's life in enlightening detail in order to write the definitive account from a male point of view, but what happened was not quite what he expected.

Mid-August through September 2001 was not exactly the best time for Lisa Anne Weber to be born. She had an expensive wardrobe, a lofty ambition, and she DID need work to support the project. The cover picture in the mirror may be Lisa, but otherwise there are no photos. Lisa was probably somewhat pretty, but she was definitely statuesque at 6'-4" in heels.

The author seemed to pass well, but being extra tall was a major disadvantage. It was not clear who thought Lisa was a woman, who thought she was a transsexual, and who thought she was just a man in a dress. Despite being pretty and having legal documentation, Lisa was not able to convince everyone that she was indeed a woman.

The author plunged into Lisa's life, experiencing much of what a real woman might experience: joining women's groups, looking for work, feeling second-class, and even being treated as a sex object by men. The author speaks of feeling pushed into unfamiliar roles, or at least perceiving how Lisa was expected to act.

Half way through the project, being Lisa became more tedious and not quite so interesting anymore. Lisa was a fictitious persona, not closely related to the author's identity. A true trans-person does not easily lose interest in their cross-identity.

The author experienced the same discontinuity between man-mode and woman-mode that transgendered persons regularly experience. Lisa and Mike were always treated as two different persons. Mike's friendships did not transfer to Lisa, and Lisa's friendships did not transfer to Mike. The author and his girlfriend experienced the same feelings that confront all transgendered couples: Mike's girlfriend, knowing full well what the project was all about and who Lisa was, still viewed Lisa as another (woman) person, who could be a threat to the relationship.

Early in the book, the author makes the statement gender is a cultural construct. This is mostly true, but there is biology here too, because male and female human beings are wired differently. As the author noted, however, there is way too much sexism and artificial role-playing.

There was no mention at all of gender identity, which is not a cultural construct. We all have one, whether or not it fits any societal model. When one actually crosses the gender line, girlfriend's and wive's comments change from "You do not understand me," to "I really do not understand you!"

--Romana

An excellent Book!
The New Girl is an excellent book! Mike Reynolds not only gets inside the psyche of a woman but also highlights changes in how society regards him because he is ostensibly female. As a woman I realize that society perceives me as inferior chiefly because I am not physically strong -- yet I know that strength has many meanings other than muscle power. I like the way Mike Reynolds emphasizes that men and women are human beings with common needs who should understand each other better--or at least try.

A Thought-Provoking Book for both Male and Females!
How can a man know so much about a woman, her feelings, emotions and personality? Read this book written by a man and you too will marvel at his insightful knowledge and convincing narrative.
Excellent read!
